A message from Prince Michael

James Bates - Sunday, January 15, 2012

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their interest and support over the years.

Please take a moment to share our new website with your friends and family via Facebook Twitter and any other medium available.
Our new website with its forum we hope will give everyone interested in the Principality the chance to give input advice and ideas.

Sealand is in its 45th year and in the time since its conception in 1967 many countries have been established about the world and many have disappeared. Empires have broken down into smaller independent entities and new borders made.

Prince Michael Standing on the Sealand HelipadMany times over the years it has been a physical and financial struggle to maintain the fortress island and keep it secure.
Aided only by our small family and a small band of Sealanders. There is only so much a small group of people can achieve.

To this end it would be great to see discussion on our forum on topics such as economical land reclamation and any international aid that might be available for that purpose, generation of  solar, tide, and wind power, coin making equipment, passport production, recognition and any other topics that would help the advancement of Sealand.

I look forward to following the interesting discussions.

Prince Michael of Sealand

Good morning Prince Michael, first of all, my congratulations to the new webpage and "welcome aboard" on Google+ ! :) good to see, the Principality is still on the world map and seems to have mastered the desastrious fire and its consequences a few years
ago. I wish, I could do more than becomin a loyal citizen of Sealand and spread the word, but time & money makes it difficult to extend this support, not to speak of the long distance from Austria to Sealand. But I wish Sealand, its Royal Family and citizens
a peaceful & prosperous year 2012 and hope, further improvements will come in either political, economical, social or technical ways... Yours sincerely Baron Achim Albert Woellgens

An old schoolmate of mine has developed plans for an economically viable floating city off the coast of California. I can't quite recall how he planned jobs creation and businesses. When we talked in the past (no hallucinogens involved) the whole thing
seemed quite feasible except for financial backing to build it. Have you sealanders explored the notion of floating but anchored territorial expansion for business purposes? I wondered if the storms in the channel might be more violent than off the coast of
California and so make such a project impractical.

The Canadian mint produces coins for foreign governments. They'd probably do that for you since I see you're interested in coin making equipment. Best of luck!
Moira commented on20-Jan-2012 04:31 PM
So, in fact, does the Royal Mint, and I believe that Fattorini Ltd too can provide this service.

The idea of passports sound interesting. Whether or not the would be considered valid is another thing but would still be fun to have.

I assume you have heard of Spiral Island, the man made one that floats on bottles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvn9l1pJ3-A It would be cheaper to make than attempting to reclaim land from the sea and if you got your supporters to collect plastic bottles
for you it mightn't even be too difficult. As Harrie pointed out there might still be problems with weather but if it was joined to Sealand's mainland and then had an anchor some sort maybe it would be ok. Also with any luck you could grow stuff on it which
would give you something else to trade.

Your Majesty, Make a museum about the Principality platform its function during the second world war. Built it like it was then and make tours possible with the helikopter. Yours sincerely, M.J. Pluijmaekers

The 'De La Rue' company prints bank notes. Have you thought of Sealand paper money as well as coins? All the best for the future.

Congratulations on Your Newsletter! I was happy to see a photo of Sealand to finally get an idea where my ladyship title is from. You should organize helicopter tours to raise some money for your projects.
